Longer-term tree nut and groundnut intake and L-arginine supplementation both improved fasting flow-mediated dilation, and the nut effect could not be fully explained by L-arginine content. Tree nut/groundnut consumption increased fasting FMD by 1.09 PP (95% CI 0.49, 1.69; P < 0.001), while L-arginine increased fasting FMD by 0.53 PP (95% CI 0.12, 0.93; P = 0.012); the difference between fasting effects was not significant (P = 0.31).
