Methods
124 infertile couples with male factor infertility were randomly assigned to receive either vitamin E or a placebo. Semen parameters and IVF outcomes were assessed before and after treatment.
Intervention
Oral synthetic vitamin E (400 IU/day) was administered for eight weeks to infertile men with abnormal semen parameters.
Results
No significant differences were observed in semen parameters or pregnancy rates between the vitamin E and placebo groups. However, a significant decrease in normal sperm percentage was noted in the placebo group after treatment.
Limitations
Only a low dose of vitamin E was administered for a short duration, which may have limited the ability to observe significant effects.
