Methods
Participants included men diagnosed with localised prostate cancer, pending radical prostatectomy. They were recruited from a single NHS trust in England and entered a presurgical observational cohort before randomisation into the trial.
Intervention
Men with localised prostate cancer were randomised into a 2×3 factorial trial involving modified nutrition (increased fruits and vegetables, reduced dairy, or lycopene supplementation) and physical activity (brisk walking or control) for 6 months.
Results
High randomisation rates (93.1%) and good adherence to interventions were noted, particularly for lycopene (78.6%) and modified nutrition (72.0% for reduced dairy). Participants in the plant-based diet group reported significantly increased fruit and vegetable consumption.
Limitations
Blinding was not employed except for the statistician, and a lack of ethnic diversity among participants may limit generalisation.

Abstract

Objective Dietary factors and physical activity may alter prostate cancer progression. We explored the feasibility of lifestyle interventions following radical prostatectomy for localised prostate cancer. Design Patients were recruited into a presurg...
