Methods
Individually randomised factorial trial conducted in low and middle-income neighbourhoods of Delhi, India, involving 13,500 women aged 18-30.
Intervention
A package of health, nutrition, psychosocial support, and WaSH interventions delivered during preconception, pregnancy, and early childhood.
Results
Preconception interventions significantly reduced low birth weight and stunting at 24 months of age. Pregnancy and early childhood interventions also had beneficial effects, but preconception interventions showed less impact on growth outcomes after two years. Notable improvements in maternal health indicators were observed.
Limitations
Limitations include the inability to mask participants due to the nature of interventions, and potential biases from higher live birth rates in the preconception intervention group.
