What this study found

Vitamin D3 supplementation was associated with greater CIN1 regression and improved insulin metabolism and oxidative stress markers over 6 months. CIN1 regression occurred in 22 of 26 women in the vitamin D group (84.6%) versus 14 of 26 in the placebo group (53.8%), P = 0.01. Serum 25(OH) vitamin D increased by 12.3 ± 11.4 ng/mL versus -0.1 ± 3.7 ng/mL with placebo (P < 0.001), insulin fell by -5.3 ± 7.3 versus +2.4 ± 5.9 (P < 0.001), and HOMA-IR decreased by -1.2 ± 1.6 versus +0.5 ± 1.2 (P < 0.001). Study & population
Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial conducted in women aged 18 to 55 years with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 1 (CIN1) in Kashan, Iran.
Intervention
Women in the active arm received vitamin D3 50,000 IU orally every 2 weeks for 6 months, compared with placebo.
Key limitation
The trial was relatively small and conducted at a single center in Iran, which limits generalizability.
